What is the difference between concrete and cement?

Cement is the glue that is used to hold sand and rock together to make concrete. The cement reacts when water is added.

Can I place concrete myself?

Many people can. This takes some experience and preparation. We recommend that you get in touch with some of our preferred contractors for concrete flatwork. They can guide you through this.

If you really want to give it a try, our sales staff will be happy to see you and go through what you will need for small jobs.

For small jobs, we also offer a Self – Consolidating Concrete called Agilia®. This concrete places with no vibration and very little effort. It pours like pancake syrup. If you are repairing a basement floor after installing new plumbing, try Agilia®.

Should I order a pump?

Concrete is pretty heavy stuff. If you have a bunch of large friend with good wheelbarrows, go for it! But, if you don't want to waste your favors with your neighbors, look at renting a concrete pump. They make a job go very quickly and limit damage to landscaping and yard work. Why should I use concrete instead of pavers?

Pavers can be very tempting because of the easy do-it-yourself nature. Concrete, on the other hand, requires more investment in your time and energy. What you get is a rigid – pavement that lasts for years and with proper subgrade preparation, will never move or settle. In addition to this, unlike permeable pavers, solid concrete acts to direct water away from you homes foundation.

Concrete is expensive.

The cost of concrete is minimal compared to most paving materials when reviewed on a per ft2 basis. Most of the cost is in the preparation, placing and finishing just like other materials. The lifespan of properly places concrete is also a strong consideration. Concrete lasts much longer than most paving materials for landscaping. You are making a good investment in your home buy using concrete today!

What is decorative concrete?

Concrete paving or hardscaping is becoming a large part of fashionable yards and exterior design work today. Patios, interior floors, driveways, are being designed with Random Slate, Canyon Stone and other textures. Concrete is like clay to an artist. A creative person can do almost anything.
